Southampton
Southampton is south England’s fast-track airport, supporting the region’s thriving business, leisure and cultural scene.
How did we perform?
The year was the busiest in the airport’s history with passenger numbers growing by 4.5% to over 1.9 million. This growth was reflected in the airport’s solid financial performance, with underlying revenue at £16 million and underlying operating profit at £6 million. Passenger satisfaction also improved in many categories, achieving an overall score of 4.0 (5 = excellent; 1= poor). In the coming years, we are aiming to further improve this travel experience throughout the airport.
How will the expansion help things?
We made a number of improvements to the airport’s facilities this year, including a new WH Smith retail unit, décor and lighting refurbishments, and work on the aircraft parking stands in preparation for the larger, quieter and fuel-efficient Embraer 195 aircraft, which will be brought into service by Flybe in 2007. A number of new routes also opened up across Europe.
In November, we launched our master plan. This lays out an ambitious vision to grow passenger numbers to three million by 2015 and six million by 2030, and deliver a comprehensively improved standard of service. At the same time, environmental issues including noise, air quality, surface access and climate change are all being carefully considered.
