Community and environment

We have a strong record of commitment to managing the environmental impacts of our airports and negotiating their growth with local communities. Many aviation issues involve balancing economic positives against environmental negatives.

BAA takes its social responsibilities seriously and aspires to be the leader among UK companies in the field of corporate responsibility.

Sometimes the scale of development can require formal public enquiries, as was the case with Terminal 5 and now with the third runway. BAA's approach to community relations is to seek the best possible understanding of local concerns through sustained dialogue and to frame our activities in response.

Each year, a percentage of BAA's pre-tax profits are provided for community investment, this includes our own charity, BAA Communities Trust. We also encourage volunteering among our staff because it both supports personal development and helps the communities around our airports.

Please see the links below for further information on the community and environment around your local airport.
