About cargo

Cargo services based at and around Aberdeen Airport developed primarily as a result of the oil and gas industry in the region. Since the lifting of the airport’s operating restrictions in March 2005, the airport has recorded a 15% growth in air cargo and mail throughput. This growth clearly demonstrates that cargo operators and freight forwarders have responded well to the increased opportunites afforded by operational flexibility.

The Aberdeen Airport Master Plan forecasts further growth in the years ahead, 7,200 tonnes in 2015 and 8,800 tonnes in 2030. The proposed runway extention will also provide additional cargo opportunties in the future.
