Executive Committee

The Executive Committee develops and recommends to the Board, medium and long-term business development strategies. They ensure the delivery of agreed strategies by providing guidance, approvals, governance and monitoring. View brief biographies of our Executive Committee members below:

Colin Matthews, Chief Executive Officer

Colin was appointed BAA's Chief Executive Officer in 2008. He is an experienced FTSE100 CEO who has led a number of service and industrial businesses in several countries. Prior to joining BAA, Colin was Group Chief Executive of Severn Trent plc, Managing Director of BA Engineering for British Airways plc, and later Executive Director of Lattice Group plc and Group Chief Executive of Hays Group plc.

Normand Boivin, Chief Operating Officer, Heathrow Airport

Normand Boivin joined BAA as Chief Operating Officer for Heathrow on 29 August 2011. Normand's most recent post was Operations Director for Aéroports de Montréal and brings almost 30 years’ experience of the aviation industry.  He started his career in 1982 as an air traffic controller for Transports Canada, and has held several positions in the Canadian airport management sector including Vice-President Operations of Montreal’s two international airports; Facilities Development Director at Montreal Dorval Airport and General Manager at Quebec City Airport.

Emma Gilthorpe, Director of Regulation

Emma joined BAA in September 2009. She was previously BT plc's Group Director of Industry Policy and Regulation and has held a number of other senior regulatory and public policy roles in Cable and Wireless. Emma is also a non-executive director of London First and of St George's NHS Trust in Tooting.

Clare Harbord, Corporate Affairs Director

Clare joined BAA in July 2011. She was previously Director of Communications at the Ministry of Justice and was responsible for all external and internal communications. Before that she was Head of Communications for German-owned energy company, E.ON and was responsible for all communications across the UK.

John Holland-Kaye, Commercial Director

John was appointed Commercial Director in May 2009. He was previously Divisional CEO with Taylor Wimpey PLC, having held a number of positions within the company including Operations Director of Taylor Woodrow Developments and Commercial Director of Taylor Woodrow Inc. Prior to that, John was Managing Director, National Sales Division, of Bass Brewers, and has also worked as a strategy consultant with LEK Consulting for a number of  high-profile businesses.

Carol Hui, General Counsel and Group Company Secretary

Carol was appointed BAA's General Counsel and Group Company Secretary in March 2009. Prior to joining BAA she was a Board Director and the General Counsel of Amey plc. She has held the positions of Group Legal Director of TDG plc and Deputy General Counsel of BG plc and was previously with Slaughter and May. She was awarded European General Counsel of the Year in 2008.

Carol is a Non-Executive Director of Robert Walters plc and a Non-Executive Director and Trustee of Action for Blind People.

Philip Langsdale, Chief Information Officer

Philip was appointed Chief Information Officer in September 2008 and has responsibility for developing IT across BAA. Philip has a strong background in top IT roles at Asda, Cable and Wireless, Midland Bank and at the BBC, where he was Chief Executive of BBC Technology. He has also acted as an IT adviser to British Airways. Most recently, Philip was a managing partner of an independent consultancy business, Langsdale Crook LLP and is currently owner and chairman of Cornish Crabbers LLP.

Philip has a sound track record of delivering technology programmes on time and in budget. He is an acknowledged and respected industry leader having sat on a number of influential industry bodies.

José Leo, Chief Financial Officer

José was appointed BAA's Chief Financial Officer in September 2006. Prior to joining BAA he was Group Finance Director of Amey plc and former Managing Director of Ferrovial Telecomunicaciones, responsible for managing Ferrovial's investments in the telecommunication sector. José was also a Director of the Spanish telecommunication operators ONO and UNI2, and Chief Finance Officer and Business Development Manager at the Spanish construction company Agroman.

Fidel Lopez, Managing Director, Airports Division

Fidel joined in January 2011. He was previously Corporate Development Director at Ferrovial Servicios, the services arm of our majority shareholder. Fidel has direct experience of airport operations through his role on the board of Swissport. He has also gained experience in the UK market through his roles on the executive committee of Amey and the board of Tube Lines. Prior to joining Ferrovial, Fidel worked in regulated industries in Spain, Italy, and Portugal.

Steven Morgan, Capital Director

Steve joined BAA in February 2009 and has responsibility for BAA's capital programme and procurement. Previously he was at British Nuclear Fuels as Commercial Director of Sellafield Ltd. Steve brings extensive experience of the management of large engineering and procurement contracts, having previously worked with Westinghouse, the US Department of Energy. He was a Rear Admiral in the United States navy, specialising in logistics and acquisitions.

Terry Morgan, Technical Standards and Assurance Director

Terry joined BAA in 1980. During his career Terry has held a variety of positions including Special Advisor to the Chairman and Chief Executive of BAA and Chief Executive Officer for Australian Pacific Airports Corporation at Melbourne Airport. More recently Terry was Managing Director of BAA International and later Managing Director of Stansted Airport. He was also Divisional Director for BAA's South East airports prior to his position as Technical Standards and Assurance Director, which he started in 2007.

Fiona Rodford, Group HR Director

Fiona joined BAA in 2007 as Group HR Director and has responsibility for the Shared Services Centre. She began her career with House of Fraser as a graduate trainee, buyer and store manager before moving to HR. Fiona has extensive transformation, business improvement and change experience and has had a progressive career spanning banking, travel, retail and leisure/hospitality with the last ten years at board level. Previously she has held Group HR Director positions with Alliance & Leicester and Thomas Cook.
