Community investment
We're committed to building a strong relationship with the local communities around our airports. This means giving something back to them through charitable donations, through educational partnerships and, of course, through jobs for local people.
How we're tackling the issueWe've learnt a great deal from the Terminal 5 inquiry. Since it started we have developed a new community relations strategy. We are supporting community activities including environmental projects, education partnerships, working with community groups and implementing vocational skills programmes.
Much of our work is channelled through the BAA Communities Trust, and so far the trust has made over £3 million of grants. The trust also aims to encourage staff volunteering, acts on initiatives proposed by BAA staff and donates to international and national charities.
Key activities include:
- Working with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) to support its Global Xchange Programme.
- Entering a three-year partnership with youth volunteering charity v.
- Supporting the I-Volunteer, BAA's employee volunteering awards.
We also actively encourage our staff to get involved in local community projects and fundraising work.
For full details of all our community investment please see our Corporate Responsibility Report.
