Engineering apprenticeships

Our success as an airport operation is down to the quality of the people who make up BAA’s many functions – not least the technicians and engineers who work hard to ensure that every part of our airports operate as they should. Which is where you could come in…
With an engineering apprenticeship with BAA, you will learn the skills needed to become a fully qualified electrical, mechanical or electronic technician and begin your career with world-class experience behind you. Our four-year course combines on-the-job training with academic study at a local college and a generous wage throughout the scheme – including when you’re studying.
The work can be demanding – but the rewards will match the effort you put in. As well as a comprehensive training programme, you’ll study towards a number of qualifications including:
- NVQ 2 in operations and maintenance
- Key Skills level 2
- BTEC national certificate in engineering
- NVQ 3 in engineering maintenance
- Advanced apprenticeship certificate.
- Work hard toward the completion of all college work
- Work as a team to develop problem solving and communication skills
- Understand the importance of the engineering function to BAA
- Demonstrate a flexible and dedicated attitude towards the scheme and their future career.
Applications open in late February and close early April each year, with aptitude tests conducted in May and assessment centres running late June and early July. Intake of successful candidates will then take place at the beginning of September. Places are limited, but we’re not looking for people with specific engineering experience – simply a mature, dedicated, ‘can-do’ attitude and a commitment to a career in engineering.
