Construction and projects

For almost half a century, BAA has been at the forefront of the air travel industry - and we’re constantly striving to improve the facilities we provide for our customers. As you can imagine, our construction and projects teams are vital in shaping and developing our plans for the future.

While construction is the largest and most visible part of what we do, we are also focused on developing people and processes. Our commitment is there for all to see; a £6 billion capital investment programme taken forward by a team equipped with all the necessary skills and knowledge. The work of our construction and projects teams stretches across every area of our airports and work includes:

  • The continual refurbishment of terminals
  • Building new terminals, including the ongoing Terminal 5 project
  • A major overhaul of all baggage systems
  • Infrastructure projects for our runways, roads and internal facilities

Key to these projects is ensuring that they become integrated with ongoing airport life with minimal disruption to our daily operations. To this end, a major part of our work is logistical, allowing passengers to flow smoothly through the terminals, and the thousands of flights that they board to depart and arrive on time.
