Engineering

Carly – Engineer, BAA Stansted

I started here when I was 16 as I liked the sound of a four-year structured training scheme. In the first year I had hands-on training at work. I also went to college one day a week to study for an NVQ2, learning more about the theory behind engineering.

Our team works within the terminal engineering department, which is made up of about 25 people. The team leaders know our core skills and specialities so they can work out the best person to do each job. It can be quite hard physically, as the mechanical equipment can be heavy, but I’m never working on my own so I always have help at hand!

As for the future, it’s very good here as you can move around pretty much wherever you like. There are several different paths open to me, such as planning, project work, or a team leader for example, but I’m happy where I am at the moment!
