Community investment
We’re committed to building a strong relationship with communities around our airports. As responsible neighbours to communities, BAA’s airports have active programmes of local community investment to deliver benefits to the communities our operations affect.
We consult with our communities on a regular basis and our community relations strategy focuses on initiatives that address the greatest area of need in the areas around our airports. We support a range of programmes from education and skills to environmental projects.
Some of our work is channelled through the BAA Communities Trust, our own charity, and so far the Trust has made over £4 million of grants. Our key activities include:
- Working with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) to support its Global Xchange Programme
- Entering a three-year partnership with youth volunteering charity (v).
- Supporting I-Volunteer, BAA’s employee volunteering awards.
Our staff are also encouraged to volunteer their time for their chosen charities and may be given up to six days paid leave to do so.
For more information please see the community investment section of our corporate responsibility report.
