Welcome to Heathrow Airport

Heathrow is the UK’s only hub airport and an important economic asset. But today Heathrow is full and vulnerable to foreign competition.
Designed for 21st century travel

We've listened to what our passengers have told us about their real-world experiences. In Terminal 5 we've created a true 21st century airport, designed with today's traveller in mind.
You said: Everything at Heathrow is too far apart – it takes time to walk to your gate, rail station or bus stop.
What we've done: At Terminal 5 your gate is reached either directly from the departure area or from one of two satellite terminals, linked by fast automated transit. And the terminal's integrated transport links mean you're never far from your bus or train.
Because there are two security control areas, you don’t have to walk to the other end of the buillding to get into the departure lounge.
And because the gates are arranged around the terminal itself, arriving passengers will have a shorter walk through passport control and baggage reclaim, with fantastic views of the airfield.
You said: You like the flight connections available at Heathrow, but you don’t like having to change terminals.
What we've done: As British Airways moves to Terminal 5, other airlines are moving at our other terminals too. By grouping airlines together with their alliance partners, we’ll be able to provide a great many more same-terminal connections. That means an easier journey for millions of passengers.
You said: You're frustrated by queues for security control.
What we've done: Built two separate security control areas to help keep waiting times to a minimum.
You said: Heathrow is showing its age. The buildings are looking tired.
What we've done: Terminal 5 is elegant, spacious and airy. Its glass walls mean you can enjoy panoramic views over the airfield to the City of London skyline and Windsor Castle. Even the underground rail station is revolutionary, with its clear-roofed central hall letting natural light flood in. [See pictures]
It doesn't end there.
A second new terminal, Heathrow East, is planned to replace Terminals 1 and 2, so passengers will enjoy a spectacular environment and streamlined airport processes. And Terminals 3 and 4 are getting an extensive refurbishment to bring them up to Terminal 5 standards.
